My trip to Pennsylvania to visit Chrisi, my close friend and lifestyle blogger of a blog titled ohheychrisi, was one filled with tons of experiences that I couldn't wait to share with my readers. One, being getting to spend some quality time at QVC headquarters with the models, and people behind Tarte cosmetics. My friend Chrisi Lydon is a model for Tarte, and you can see why below...she is absolutely gorgeous!
Not only was I able to go behind the scenes and see the inner workings of a major industry in America, QVC, but also meet some of the people involved with the network, including the brands that QVC hosts, primarily Tarte Cosmetics.

I was able to meet Tarte's founder, Maureen Kelly, and talk with: Tarte's make-up artist, models, and the people behind the brand that just make it work. I like to call them the Tarte Team. They were incredibly friendly-just a bunch of girlfriends having fun together, talking make-up, and all things fabulous!

A Little Bit About QVC :

1. Launched in 1986.
2. The West Chester, Pa.-based channel broadcasts live 24 hours a day, every day except Christmas.
3. It has been said that QVC offers about 60,000 products annually.
4. "Viewers call in an average of 15,000 orders per hour." (Selling on QVC: nice work if you can get it)
5.  QVC (the letters stand for quality, value and convenience) has shipped more than 1 billion packages in the U.S. alone.

A Tasty Tidbit On Tarte:

1. Tarte cosmetics is a cruelty-free cosmetics line, meaning Tarte makeup and skincare is never tested on animals.
2. Tarte is always formulated without: parabens, mineral oil, phthalates. triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, and gluten.
3. Tarte offers a free sample with purchase through their Tarte Tokens Program!
4. Maureen Kelly is the owner and founder of Tarte, which she started in 1999 out of her bedroom apartment in Manhattan! (I was able to meet her- she is vivacious, full of life, energy, and so passionate about her product.)

I was lucky to snag some swag, and start my own collection of Tarte cosmetics.  After working with some of the products, and playing around by creating a few new looks, I am pleased to announce that I consider myself a Tartelette! While I don't have super sensitive skin, I do break out from make-up that sits heavily on pores, or dries out my skin. What I love about Tarte cosmetics is that their products finish light, and I can wear them everyday without feeling like they're weighing heavily on my skin. Plus they're good for my skin health. Talk about a win-win.

So go head girl grab some! Here are my top 5 favorite products, all of which are available at: Tarte's website.

I would just like to say I am so impressed, and inspired by someone who started a makeup company, as impressive as Tarte, out of her Manhattan bedroom apartment. If you have a dream follow it my lovelies; you'll never know where your dreams will lead. Happy Thursday!

My inspiration for this Get The Look is Phoebe Tonkin's soft and sultry make-up for a jewelry campaign. I love this shimmery look. It plays up light colored eyes, and looks great on summer skin.

Think of this tutorial like paint by numbers! First apply the white pearl makeup in the inner corners of your eyes as well as on your brow bone. Second, brush the gold shimmer over entire lid. Third, you're going to brush a bronze shimmer shadow all over your crease and half of your lid (the outer half).

I love this palette! So affordable and highly pigmented!

When you add your eyeliner make sure that it is as close to your eyelash line as possible, and extremely thin. Don't forget to curl your lashes and add mascara!

So easy with most of the attention paid to the eyes, this look was inspired by the makeup worn in the 1940s. Lately we have been seeing a lot of vintage inspired fashion, especially with the mega box office hit The Great Gatsby. This look is a little bit more muted than the 1920s flapper style, but still fun and reminiscent of a different era.

What you will need:
- A black liquid liner
- A black matte liner
- A black matte eye shadow
- A peach coloured blush
- A neutral lip
- Falsies Lash Blast Mascara
- A stiff eyebrow eyeliner brush

Finish with a neutral lip and voila! You are done!

4/16/13

It just seemed natural for Dusk & Rubies next post to be about doing your makeup in 5 minutes. Why? Well, because if you're running late and you've put together that awesome outfit from "5 Steps to Look Put Together...(Even When You're Not)", then you're going to have to complete that easy look with an easy, pretty, and fresh, makeup!

Before we start [Disclaimer]: You are about to see me sans makeup! AHHHHHHH!

I timed myself and it took me almost as long as Justin Timberlake's music video for"Suit & Tie". So cue it up, and let me show you a few things.

List of the Products I Used to Achieve This Look:

From left to right: Maybelline Color Sensation Lipstick in Pearly Pink, Lipgloss pot Princess Marcella Borghese Mineral Lip Gloss in Bella Rosa, Maybelline The Falsies Flared Mascara, CoverGirl Trublend Minerals Powder in Light #410, Eucerin: For Sensitive Skin Everday UV Protection Face Lotion, Revlon Age Defying Spa Foundation in Medium Moyen, and E.L.F Shimmering Face Whip in Lilac Petal.

Before you start: Make your skin glow not only is it healthy and wrinkle preventative it allows your face to glow, so don't forget your face cream.

At least I look happy right? A smile is always lovely.
Step 1 Cover Up: Now for the most part my skin is clear, but I like to use an under eye concealer, and then a liquid cover up just to even up my skin tone around my nose. I used Revlon Age Defying SPF Foundation. What is time saving about this product is that it has a built in brush, and you just brush over the areas you want to conceal. This works great to even my skin tone, and get rid of under eye circles.

Perfect Time Saving Strategy!
Step 2 Set Your Concealer: Use a mineral powder to set your concealer, and further perfect your skin. The CoverGirl trublend minerals is a great price point, and easy to sweep over face with a large powder brush.

Step 3 Add Some Color!: This next step I am so excited to share with you. I recently came across an awesome product that is a major time saver, when getting ready in a snap. It is the E.L.F Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal. First off this is a 3 in 1 product. It serves as a highlighter, blush, and shadow! Oh my. And, in the words of Barney Stinson wait for it...It is lengendary -at only $1.00. It goes on light and smooth.

If you are unsure how to use the E.L.F Shimmering Facial Whip, then here is picture showing you where to highlight your face:

Step 4 Get your Falsies On: Having a mascara that curls your lashes upwards, as well as flares them out is a phenomenal find. Also when you're in a rush you don't always have the time to add eyeliner, so you want a mascara that is going to thicken and darken your lashes. Falsies Flared by Maybelline does just that in a snap.

Step 5 Pout and Apply: To bring this entire look together I chose Maybelline's Color Sensations in Pearl Pink, then added  with my finger a dab of gloss over it with Borghese's Mineral Lip Gloss in Bella Rosa.

Fini...in 5 minutes! Here is the final product:
