City Living: The Fashion 2.0 Awards

If you have been following Dusk & Rubies on Facebook then you probably know we write for Guest Of A Guest! They had sent me to cover the Fashion 2.0 Awards last Thursday and we had a blast! To see the article visit: HERE. What I didn't write about was what I wore, who I mingled with and what it was like for me a little blogger from New York.

Before this epic moment (being captured on Zac Posen's cell phone and then instagrammed to his account) I was stressed over what I was going to wear. Well, not stressed, but over my head. It's not quite Spring, not quite Winter and I was about to attend the Oscars of the fashion world. I was not presenting nor nominated (could you imagine for D&R jewels?! That would be beyond amazing), but I was attending as press. So, how do I look professional, feel comfortable while standing on my feet for a few hours prior to the show and look fashionable? Then I realized to fit in is to stand out, so I went vintage and I am so glad I did!

There is a great feel to something that has been past down. It feels protective, nostalgic, one-of-a-kind, valuable, historic-like it has a life, story of its own. And when you wear it, you feel like you're adding to the story. I knew it was going to be a bit chilly in the city, but I didn't want to have to coat check my jacket or lug it around so I wore my Grandmother's fur stole. It even has her name stitched into it. I felt like I had a guiding hand of another fashionable lady on my shoulder the for the whole night.

For my purse I chose my Grandmother's Minaudiere (a small evening bag embezzled with pieces of metal, semi precious stones, beads or covered with fabric or leather). This bag also had a vintage gold chain on the inside that you could choose to use or tuck away. I love this bag and use it often because it always adds a nice pop of color.

Besides for my fur stole being pet by a drunk fellow on the train who apparently just earned money for his start-up and was celebrating, my stole stole the show. I heard, "I love your coat; it just brings the whole outfit together" a couple of times that night and to be complimented by the most fashionables at the Fashion 2.0 Awards was amazing...amazing until I was able to meet Zac Posen, Coco Rocha, and Robert Verdi. Coco is super sweet and young she is only 25. Zac Posen is friendly and intelligent, while Robert Verdi is lively and entertaining.  We bumped into Ms. Rexti from stylingmsrexti.com at the after party for another treat!

So, fashion lesson we learned here? Why go out and buy something new, when you can wear something vintage and look fabulous?

Keep calm and wear vintage! #keepcalmwearvintage

  1. I thought I was going to need a small or maybe a medium, but all they had was extra small and large. I ordered the extra small, terrified that I was going to have to send it right back but it fit perfectly!
