Czar by Cesar Galindo Spring/Summer 2015 Presentation

Dusk & Rubies

In our book a Cesar Galindo's presentations never disappoint, but this time there was an added twist. Surrounding the models were professional artists who drew portraits of the models in his NYFW designs. The overall aesthetic of watching live art draw live art added an extra dimension to all who attended. Not only was there a huge turnout, but designer Cesar Galindo made time to give us the inside scoop, share his favorite looks from his collection and tell us about the secret life he wish he had during fashion week!

I know it’s like choosing between children, but out of your entire collection, which piece is your favorite piece?

The blue and yellow color-block dress, and I don’t normally pick a dress either. But, this time, I pick that one.
Dusk & Rubies

How did you go about choosing which Jane Hruska piece to put with which dress? How do you choose which accessories to use?

It is an organic process, and I think when we are doing the fittings we are trying to figure out what plays into what. And we swap them around and see which piece makes sense. So, there is a lot of playing around.
Dusk & Rubies

Who are you most looking forward to seeing at this NYFW?
Oh my god. I haven’t had a chance to do anything -tweeting, instagraming or going to the shows. I really just can’t wait to get a chance to sleep. We are all going like 500 miles per hour. And I am looking most forward to lying in my bed. When, I get up I am going to review all of the collections over a cup of coffee. That’s when I really get a chance to get into what’s going on. It’s like we live in two different worlds. I can’t wait until I can actually go and enjoy it all.

Dusk & Rubies

If you could do anything other than be at NYFW today what would you be doing?
I mean just today- the weather is really beautiful- we were going by Central Park and I was like wouldn’t it be amazing if today we could just go into the park and enjoy a bottle of wine!

Although we love wine and hanging out in CP, we could never pass up on NYFW Cesar!

Tia Cibani's 2015 Resort Collection titled Nautical Nomads is everything you would want out of your vacation wear. It's light, breezy and draws on nautical color schemes, details and nuances. Not only are there so many versatile pieces that would look great on a variety of women within this collection, but also each piece is designed to keep you comfortable and fashionable while enjoying the warm weather on your holiday.

Oh, and one more thing, if you're wearing Tia Cibani on vacation, then you may rival the views of whichever destination you have chosen! Happy scrolling!

When we met Tia Cibani Friday afternoon we instantly and quietly admired her. She is tiny like a bird and graceful like one too. She instantly shook our hand with both equal amounts of strength and warmth. Tia Cibani was awarded the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award in women's wear during her debut season Spring/ Summer 2013 and has gained immense success ever since including be named designer to watch by Style.com, Vogue Italia and WWD.

I don't know why I am surprised each time I find a new fav take-away or restaurant in NYC, but I am--every time!. There are so many tasty and trendy foodie finds in MP (meat packing) where my office presently is. Last Friday I met up with my friend Danielle who told me all of her favorite places to eat that are in the area (her husband works above Chelsea Market) making her a foodie expert and the perfect lunch companion! Tucked away in the back of Chelsea Market is the Tuck Shop an Australian meat pie shop. So what is a vegan doing at a meat pie shop? Read on to find out!

New York City caters to over 8.4 million people, now imagine multiplying that number by the number of taste buds in each person's mouth. With different tastes and different lifestyles it is no wonder that within every area from Meatpacking to Chelsea to Midtown there are places where you can get fresh pressed juices, all natural smoothies, vegan meals, and gluten free cookies! Another intern and I, love going out for lunch to get some fresh air, take in some sun (when it's out!) and try some of the great restaurants around our area. We are a couple of lucky ducks to be a 5 minute walk from Chelsea Market and this little health food takeaway and juice stand called, One Lucky Duck

If you have been following Dusk & Rubies on Facebook then you probably know we write for Guest Of A Guest! They had sent me to cover the Fashion 2.0 Awards last Thursday and we had a blast! To see the article visit: HERE. What I didn't write about was what I wore, who I mingled with and what it was like for me a little blogger from New York.

Okay, so International Women's Day was March 8th, but Dusk & Rubies thinks that everyday we should celebrate the women in our lives, and importantly ourselves! So, if you haven't already, tell a special lady in your life that you appreciate her; that you're proud of her; and that you're supporting her 100%. We all need this little boost of confidence, and these types of compliments go a lot further than the ones that compliment our shoes...but if you like them, feel free to compliment them too!

It was at the amazing Cycle 4 Survival event hosted at Equinox Fitness this past Sunday, that we had the pleasure to sit down and talk with the lovely creature that is Lo Bosworth. As Lo tucked into her quiche dressed in her workout gear post cycling she enlightened us as to what inspired her to join the battle against rare cancer, her favorite way to stay fit, and what she does for fun.

Fingers crossed that we have finally evaded the snow, but I am going to anticipate a wet Spring. And a wet spring means that NYC turns into a free water park with knee deep puddles awaiting my accidental steps, and taxis whose splash zone puts Shamus' to shame.  But no matter how terrible the wet weather may be, I am just happy it is finally warming up! Plus, I am the type of girl who owns multiple trench coats and I just can't wait to use them.

Despite these record breaking snow storms, New York fashion week street style has not left us feeling disappointed or deprived. I still saw some well curated outfits walking the streets around Lincoln Center and throughout the city even in the below freezing temperatures.  But, to say that figuring out what I was going to wear last Sunday was easy, would be false. I don't do well in the cold, and because I had two shows to attend, one right after the other, one downtown the other uptown I had to adjust and plan accordingly.

We love learning beauty tips and tricks from the best beauty gurus in the business and that is why I wrote about them here. But we wanted to know more! We asked Mally Roncal, Ouidad, and others backstage at the Tracy Reese show to tell us their Fashion Week Secrets!

I love the snow, but traveling in it is another story. How can something so beautiful, bright and fluffy be so dangerous? Snow in the city usually means delays, but if you have the good sense to leave earlier than usual and check your train times you will arrive on time! But if you don't have the good sense, or you're usually late we have the solution for you...and it will fit in the palm of your hand.

Every Friday I treat myself to a nice lunch from a restaurant near my editorial internship. Being so close to Chelsea Market, I have some fantastic options to satisfy my mid-day-munch attack. My current favorite restaurant is The Standard Grill. I can easily eat my broccoli rabe and breadsticks at their beautiful bar, sip on a cup of coffee and relax/meditate about my day. The bartenders are friendly and always give me too much bread! For an $11 lunch (including tip and tax), I can't imagine a half hour break more satisfying!

Friday night in Manhattan is electric; everyone's workday is winding down but the young professionals are winding up, itching to get to happy hour and start their weekends. It was my first day as an editorial intern for Guest of a Guest, and as everyone's day was ending mine was just getting started. I left Meat Packing to attend the Meet and Greet with Restorsea Founder Patti Pao and Brand Ambassador Emmy Rossum (Fiona from Shameless) at Bergdoff Goodman.

Sometimes we catch up with some celebrities, designers, international super models, CEO's and we ask a few questions, eat some food, drink some champagne- you know the usual city mingling. We are dressed to impress, we have our questions practiced, locked and loaded, and we are fully expecting to bump into the socially elite. Other times celebrity sightings happen when we least expect it, when we are out with the family, and when we have food in our teeth (okay the last was a slight exaggeration...or was it?) It was actually my little brother who noticed this 90's sitcom star, while at Carmine's on the upper east side. Of course mom was embarrassed, and thought it was bad manners to disrupt his day-but I, on the other hand, was my little brother's partner in crime. I told him the two words he wanted to hear "Do it".

My number one rule, when approaching celebrities, is to never go up to them if they are being bombarded by paparazzi, surrounded by a bunch of people, or having a conversation with the person they came with.

But, I feel if there is no one around and they are not being annoyed, then there is nothing wrong with going over, introducing yourself and giving him or her a compliment on their work in a non-aggressive way. (You don't want to jump/ dive on them like my sister did when Mario reached out and shook my hand)...or...(swing your arm so hard into your sister's chest when Bruce Willis stops to give you directions)...yes, this is my same sister. Anyway, do you remember Steve Hytner? The real question is, can you name a sitcom Steve did not appear in? He has been in quite a few! Check it out here.

He is most notably recognized for his appearances on Seinfeld as Kenny Bania.

Anyway Steve was incredibly kind, signed an autograph for my brother, took a picture with us, and walked back to our table to talk with my parents. He asked us why we were so tall, and blamed it on my mom. I love celebrity sightings like this one, making us feel like stardom doesn't go to everyone's head. You're gold, Steve, GOLD!

Here is our celebrity sightings in the past year, and around where we bumped into them! Have a celebrity sighting, or story you would like to share? Tell us in the comments below. We can't wait to read it!

Ah, New York City. A vacation destination for many, NYC boasts some of the best cultural opportunities, breathtaking views, inspiring entertainment, grade A dining, hotels, and a celeb spotting or two that you can't find anywhere else!

Remember the post we wrote titled, NYC Hotel Reviews For Every Budget? Well, the New York Hilton was one of our top picks for mid price hotels. I had complained that I didn't have nearly enough photos for the amount of times I had frequented the hotel. So, without further ado, here is our review of one of our favorite hotels due to its impeccable service, cleanliness, space (which is much needed but never promised in NYC), and hospitality.

There is nothing better than a view of Central Park and Radio City. The Hilton upgraded us to an executive corner suite which means beautiful views, more space, access to the executive lounge, free continental breakfast, coffee and tea all day, hor d'oeuvres in the evening, and free wi-fi access on computers also located in the executive lounge.

We love the personal touches that the Hilton doesn't forget. It makes us feel all warm (and dare I say) sort of like a celebrity when everyone knows your name.

The Hilton is family friendly, as well as a business worthy destination with conference spaces, large desks, comfy work chairs, and double queen occupancy rooms.

If you rather do your work out of your room, then the executive lounge is the perfect place to grab a latte, a cookie, and bring your laptop!

Oh, and if you want to hit happy hour early there is the executive lounge honor bar which charges right to your room. They offer: Brooklyn Lager, Amstel Light, Stella Artois, and Budweiser.

Thanks Hilton for allowing our readers to stay up to date with everything on the Dusk & Rubies blog! Computer access is given to anyone who stays in an executive room.

Where is your favorite place to stay when you're in NYC? Have you stayed at the Hilton before? Tweet the Hilton at @NYHiltonMidtown with your pictures and comments.

Because even our accessories need a little rejuvenation!

In the winter everything loses its supple elasticity, and its smooth and silky texture. I am not just talking about our skin, our hair, our nails,  (gahh my cuticles in the winter drive me crazy!) but also our leather handbags, shoes, and accessories. You know your favorite designer boots that are no longer available and look visibly weathered? You know the ones  I mean. They are so weathered you tell yourself they look "vintage" just to make yourself feel better. Although, deep down, you are well aware that your shoes are one walk up 5th Ave away from literally turning into dust. I think every girl has one pair of jeans, shoes, or favorite accessory that if anything happened to it would get on her knees and wail to the gods about how unfair life can be, then maybe eat some chocolate... or a brownie... to numb the pain...
Anyway...

I have a pair of boots that are my absolute favorite that are in dire need of saving. So where can you go to save a pair of leather shoes? Why a spa of course; The Leather Spa to be exact and it was one of the best Spa experiences of my life.

Let us take a look at the before picture shall we (Dusk & Rubies is a sucker for a good before and after sequence):

The proof is in the (figgy) pudding. So while your moisturizing your face and conditioning your hair this wintry season, don't forget about giving your bags and shoes a little TLC!

While walking through NYC, the possibility of bumping into someone interesting is extremely likely! You can never fully expect who you could meet (Like that one time Bruce Willis gave me directions, and my sister became so excited her flailing arms hit me hard, square in the chest and almost re-started my heart).  Yeah, a girl needs to be prepared! I've learned to bring my Canon everywhere I go, because you never know when inspiration will strike.

Well a few days ago, while perusing Bendels I noticed a funky watch. I immediately called my sister over, and as we admired a rubber skeleton watch for its perfect color (Mint Milano), and its expert price point (only $125!), graphic designer and co-designer of TKO watches came up and introduced himself!
Get Their Milano (Rubber) Skeleton Watch  Here In:

for other colors visit their website: here

TKO stands for The Knock Out which is a watch brand notable for its daring designs. We are not talking about the Justin Timberlake song which is A-MA-ZING by the way, but rather these fun and fashionable watches!

Kevin told us a lot about his brand. The watch we admired was featured in Elle magazine! That was not the first time TKO had been noticed by the press. TKO was chosen by Oprah and featured in her Favorite Things- that's big time! Remember how I said daring desings? Well TKO uses slap band technology for some of their watches. Remember slap-bracelets? Well, what is also amazing about TKO is they have an entire line of slap-band watches, which has taken the 90s slap-band technology and made it super posh through their expert craftsmanship, designs, and use of luxury materials.

What we love about these watches are their vibrant colors, and their construction. I loved how these watches were made out of rubber, and light in weight, making them perfect for warmer weather, vacations, beachwear, and running around (whether at the gym or around the town)

Kevin graphic designer, and co-designer of TKO watches, 2013

Kevin also gave us the insiders scoop to what will be trending this Spring, 2014, in accessories! If you think the patent leather trend is going to go away just because the weather will be warming up, then I have to tell you that you are mistaken! Patent leather is here to stay, and you will see it in all accessories including TKO's watch sets at Henri Bendel. They come with bands in amazing colors.

Trend Preview: Accessories 2014 Patent Leather

So, where will you wear your TKO watch? And, what do you think about patent leather yay, or nay? Sound off in the comment section below. Personally I love patent leather I think it always looks great, adds an instant glint to any outfit, and it wears well!
